Circa 1850 William Young Vernier Compass

This is a very nice William Young Compass. This compass does not have a serial number, so the compass was made before 1853.

The level vial no longer holds liquid, but everything else including the counter seems to work. The compass comes with the box and staff adapter.

William Young was one of the premier instrument makers in America for decades. He built the first Transit, and worked with William Burt in making the first solar compasses.
